Osaka is known as Japan's kitchen (Tenka no Daidokoro). Must-try dishes include takoyaki (octopus balls), okonomiyaki (savory pancakes), kushikatsu (deep-fried skewers), and kitsune udon. Dotonbori and Shinsekai are the best areas for street food.

Kyoto is just 15 minutes by JR Special Rapid train or 45 minutes by Hankyu Railway. Nara is about 35-50 minutes by JR or Kintetsu Railway. Both cities make excellent day trips from Osaka.

Namba and Shinsaibashi are ideal for nightlife, shopping, and easy access to Dotonbori. Umeda/Osaka Station offers excellent transport connections. Tennoji is great for families visiting the zoo and Shinsekai. All areas are well-connected by subway.

If staying only in Osaka, a JR Pass isn't necessary as subways and private railways are more convenient. However, if day-tripping to Kyoto, Nara, Kobe, or Himeji, consider the Kansai Area Pass or Osaka Amazing Pass for unlimited travel and attraction discounts.
